Alcon Entertainment confirmed today in a press release that well known scribe Michael Green is in negotiations to rewrite the Blade Runner sequel first penned by Hampton Fancher. Fancher’s original screenplay was set a number of years after the original Blade Runner (1982) movie.

It was also confirmed by Alcon that co-founders and co-Chief Executive Officers Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove will produce the Blade Runner sequel with Bud Yorkin and Cynthia Sikes Yorkin, along with Ridley Scott under his Scott Free Productions company. Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble who are the CEO’s of Thunderbird Films have signed on as executive producers.

Alcon and Yorkin also reiterated that they would be partnering to produce all theatrical Blade Runner sequels and prequels, in addition to all television and interactive productions. This news suggesting that their may be more Blade Runner spin off projects in the pipeline.

Green has previously worked on the Green Lantern (2011) and recently rewrote Robopocalypse and Warners Bros’ Gods and Kings.

This is the first news to be released about the Blade Runner sequel in quite some time and hopefully provides a sign that the project is now moving full steam ahead.
